ROLLA, Mo. -- Missouri S&T moved to 4-0 on the season with last night's 72-54 victory over the Lincoln Blue Tigers... picking up their first conference win of the season.
The first game of Great Lakes Valley Conference play got off to a sluggish start, with neither team scoring for the first four minutes of the contest as the Blue Tigers and the Miners combined for 0-for-10 from the field and four turnovers. Lincoln was the first to break the scoring drought, pulling ahead 5-0 at the 14:26 minute mark before
Lovell Williams (Rogers, MN/Maple Grove) answered with S&T's first bucket of the day.
The Blue Tigers would inch ahead, leading by as many as 7 points at 11:20 after a three-pointer from Matthieu Biembongo. The Miners would go on an 11-0 run over three and a half minutes in the latter part of the first half, pulling ahead by 22-18 at 5:44. A three from
Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) (assisted by
Adam Rickman (Washington, MO/St. Francis Borgia)) would give the Miners a 34-28 lead heading into the half.
Williams, Young, and
Ryan Sroka (Lake in the Hills, IL/Huntley) would combine for 12 points at the start of the second half, helping the Miners extend their lead to 46-30 at 15:58. An 8-2 run by the Blue Tigers would cut S&T's lead to ten. An electrifying alley-oop from Williams to Young would help begin a 12-0 run for the Miners that extended their lead to 60-38.
Contributions from Lincoln's Max Okono would help the visitors pull the game within 15 points at 66-51, before the Miners closed the door on Lincoln with six more points to win the game 72-54.
Young led the team in scoring and rebounds, scoring 21 and going 9-of-12 from the field with 7 rebounds. Williams shot well too, going 7-of-11 with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. The Miners had 6 blocks in tonight's contest, tying the most in a game this season… Young and
Zac Brown (Collinsville, OK/Collinsville) both contributed two, while Williams and Stovall each picked up one.
