Miners Women's Basketball Set New Records in Win over Emporia State

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Basketball set new records in an 85-67 win over Emporia State on Wednesday night.

The Miners held a 19-12 lead after the first quarter. In the first minute, Franchesca Metz (Downers Grove, IL/Nazareth Academy) drained a three-pointer and Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) made it 6-0 with one of her own 30 seconds later. Metz put in her second three-pointer to give S&T a 9-0 lead. Metz put in another three ball later in the quarter and Addyson Kent (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County) also picked up one to give S&T a seven-point lead at the end of the quarter.

S&T led the second quarter in a similar fashion as they entered halftime with a 38-25 lead. Metz and Gum both picked up three-pointers in the early parts of the quarter. Anna Finley (Owensville, MO/Owensville) and Kent both put in three-pointers at the halfway point of the quarter. After a seven-point Hornets run, Finley put in a layup and Metz drained another from three-point range. At the end of the half, the Miners led by 13 points.
 
In the third quarter, S&T outscored Emporia State 24-13. The two teams were back-and-forth early, but Metz made another from three-point land followed by Kent a few minutes later. Chorus Davis (Kansas City, MO/Lincoln College Prep) entered the scoring sheet with a three-point shot made and Metz extended the lead to 16 with a jumper. Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) tallied five points in the last few minutes of the quarter and Ava Maner (Rogers, AR/Providence Academy) made a three ball.

Emporia State outscored Missouri S&T 29-23 in the fourth quarter but it was not enough as the Miners won 85-67. Metz added to her point total with five points in the quarter and another three-pointer. Kent put in two more threes in under a minute as the Miners had 17 total three-pointers in their 86-67 win.
 
S&T's 17 three-pointers made in this game was a new program record. The Miners beat the previous record of 14 set in 2021. Their 31 threes attempted tied a program record also set against Blackburn on Nov. 15, 2021. In total, Missouri S&T shot 54.8% from downtown and 51.8% from the field. They had 32 rebounds, 20 assists, 12 steals and six blocks.

Metz led the way for the Miners with 26 points, 8-for-10 field goal shooting and 7-for-9 three-point shooting. Her 26 points set a new career high. She also recorded seven rebounds. Kent went 5-for-8 from beyond the arc to tally 17 points for S&T. Gum had 10 points and six rebounds, while Finley collected eight points, eight assists and four rebounds. Roberts had a great day with seven points, eight rebounds, four blocks, two assists and two steals. Davis and Bonnie Lew Ludlow (Indianapolis, IN/Covenant Christian) both picked up three steals.
 
What's Next

Missouri S&T will celebrate Thanksgiving this week until they are back in action on Monday against Lincoln at home. It will be their first GLVC game of the season and first ever matchup with Lincoln in the GLVC. Following that game, the Miners will take on Upper Iowa at Gibson Arena on Dec. 5.
