Women's Basketball Best Lincoln, Improve to 4-1

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Basketball took down Lincoln 70-49 to open GLVC play on Monday night. 

In the first quarter, the Miners outscored the Blue Tigers 16-7. After Lincoln took an early 2-0 lead, S&T went on a 12-0 run to take a 12-2 lead. Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) highlighted in that run with four points. Bonnie Lew Ludlow (Indianapolis, IN/Covenant Christian) had the last four points for S&T as they lead at the first break.

Both teams scored 11 points in the second quarter as S&T went into the locker room with a 27-18 lead. Addyson Kent (North Vernon, IN/Jennings County) started out the quarter with a three-pointer and after Lincoln put in a layup, Addison Hopkins (Columbia, MO/Rock Bridge) responded with a three-pointer herself. The two teams traded points back-and-forth the rest of the way as S&T went into halftime with a lead.

The Miners had their most efficient quarter of the day in the third as they scored 23 points to just 13 for Lincoln. An 11-0 run at the beginning of the quarter was highlighted by two three-pointers from Kent. Ludlow tallied four points in the quarter including a three-pointer.

In the fourth, S&T put up 20 points to win 70-49 over Lincoln. Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) tallied a three-point shot in the beginning of the quarter and picked up a fastbreak point later in the quarter. By the end of the fourth quarter, the Miners picked up the win by 21 points to earn their first GLVC win of the year.

Gum had a season-high 13 points with five rebounds and three blocks for S&T. Roberts was second with 11 points, five rebounds, three blocks and two assists. As a collective, Gum and Roberts went a combined 10-for-15 from the field. Kent went 3-for-5 from three-point range with four rebounds. Ludlow collected eight points and Franchesca Metz (Downers Grove, IL/Nazareth Academy) put up five points and seven rebounds.

As a team, the Miners shot 41.3% from the field and 36.4% from beyond the arc. They outrebounded the Blue Tigers 55-37. They also tallied nine blocks with six steals. S&T recorded 34 points in the paint with 18 points off turnovers.

What's Next

The 4-1 Miners will take on Upper Iowa on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. This weekend, they will welcome Quincy on Saturday at 1 p.m. Every game this week will be played at Gibson Arena.
