ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Volleyball defeated McKendree 3-2 on Friday night thanks to another
Alina Carrillo (Oviedo, FL/Hagerty) double-double.
The Miners started out strong with a 25-23 first set victory. S&T took six of the first nine points as they eventually went up 13-8. However, the Bearcats got within two points, but S&T made it 18-13 with a three-point run. Late in the set, McKendree tied it up at 20-20. That was the closest they got as the Miners put up four of the last six points to win 25-23.
In the second set, McKendree responded after they won 26-24. An early 9-6 lead turned into 14-11 with a four-point run. The Miners tied it up at 14-14 and eventually took a one-point lead. At 19-18, the Bearcats put up three straight points then two more after a service error. After S&T responded with a 24-24 tie, two Bearcat kills tied up the match at 1-1.
Missouri S&T responded in the third set as they won 27-25. The Bearcats took an early 3-0 lead but after that, they recorded 10 of the next 12 points to take a 10-5 lead. McKendree got within two points, but S&T went up 16-11 midway through the set. Both teams were back-and-forth until a four-point run gave the Bearcats a 24-23 lead. S&T put up four of the last five points to win the set 27-25.
With a 2-1 deficit, the Bearcats answered as they topped the Miners 25-20 in the fourth set. After the Miners took a 4-0 lead, McKendree went on a run to go up 12-7. Both teams traded runs for the rest of the set and S&T got within three points at 21-18. The Bearcats closed them out in the set to win 25-20.
In S&T's fifth five-set match of the year, they won 15-8. Both teams were deadlocked at 6-6 midway through the fifth set until S&T went on a four-point run to go up 10-6. After the Bearcats put up two points, the Miners ended the match with a five-point run to win 15-8. In the fifth set,
Alina Carrillo (Oviedo, FL/Hagerty) had two kills and
Isabelle Monaco (O'Fallon, MO/Living Word Christian) picked up three and the match-winning ace.
Carrillo collected another double-double with 19 kills and 28 digs. The 28 digs is her new season-high in her 14
th double-double of 2024. She also had four aces and one block. Monaco also had a double-double after she recorded 13 kills and 27 digs with two aces and three blocks.
Madison Offerman (Herscher, IL/Herscher) hit for .588 with 12 kills and six total blocks.
Madison Smith (Boonville, MO/Boonville) tallied eight kills and five blocks.
Lexi Kosmopolis (O'Fallon, IL/Newsome) picked up seven kills, four blocks and nine digs.
Annie Arand (Washington, MO/St. Francis Borgia) recorded 30 assists, two aces and five digs, while
Elise Mehaffy (Marion, IA/Marion) had 27 assists, nine digs, three kills, two blocks and one ace.
What's Next
The Miners will welcome #14 Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday night at 5 p.m. After the weekend, S&T will travel North to face Flagler and Lewis on Nov. 1 and Indianapolis on Nov. 2. They will come back home on Nov. 9 to face Maryville.
