LIBERTY, Mo. -- The Miners scored a season-high 5 goals in tonight's win over the Cardinals, all of which came from different goal-scorers as
Greycen Erisman (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West),
Ava Hoenes (Columbia, MO/Hickman),
Melissa Parker (Chesterfield, MO/Marquette),
Haylee Prime (Lewis Center, OH/Olentangy Orange), and
Macy Wilderson (Kansas City, MO/St. Pius X) all scored.
The Miners were able to get four shots off in the opening nine minutes. Three of the Miners' early shots came from Hoenes, with the last one being a goal off a cross in from
Allison Cole (Mansfield, TX/Mansfield).
The Cardinals would get a couple of corner kicks after the goal before S&T retook control and were able to get two shots off in as many minutes before a failed clear by a Jewell defender led to S&T's second goal of the evening, this time off the right foot of
Melissa Parker (Chesterfield, MO/Marquette).
Jewell would counter again with an onslaught of three shots in just over a minute and a half, but were unable to put one in. The Miners would score once more before the half, with
Greycen Erisman (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) burying a free kick after a Cardinal foul just outside the box.
Brooke Bendoff (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) would get a pair of shots off in the opening minutes of the second half, but it would be Prime who scored the next goal for S&T after a pass from Hoenes gave her plenty of space to make a move around a defender and score the Miners' fourth goal of the match.
The next fifteen minutes would be relatively quiet compared to the rest of the match, with the teams combining for only one shot in that stretch. Around the 76-minute mark a yellow card and a red card in the box by Jewell led to a penalty kick for the Miners that would result in
Macy Wilderson's (Kansas City, MO/St. Pius X) first career goal and lead to a final score of 5-0 for S&T.
The Miners now have nine different goal scorers on the season, with Erisman leading the team in both goals scored and assists with three of each. Kristen Oliver got her second start in goal of the season, only having to make 1 save as the Miners defense only allowed one shot on goal all match.
