LIBERTY, Mo. – Missouri S&T Women's Volleyball was swept by William Jewell on the road on Friday night.
The Cardinals took a very early 5-2 lead that turned into a 12-4 lead with a six-point run. After two straight S&T points, William Jewell recorded a four-point run. The Miners attempted a comeback with seven points in eight tries. The two teams went back-and-forth but Missouri S&T lost 25-22 in the first set.
William Jewell topped Missouri S&T in the second set 25-16. The Miners took an early 3-0 lead, but the Cardinals went on a four-point run and eventually took a 7-4 lead. That lead turned into a 19-9 lead, their largest of the set. The Cardinals won the set with a final of 25-16.
In the third set, the Miners fell 25-20 to give William Jewell the match win. Missouri S&T took an 11-6 lead early in the set. Later, the Cardinals went on a five-point run to tie the set at 14-14. After they took a one-point lead, William Jewell rattled off six straight points to eventually win 25-20.
Alina Carrillo (Oviedo, FL/Hagerty) led the Miners with 13 kills and a .357 hitting percentage. She had a double-double after she added 13 digs.
Isabelle Monaco (O'Fallon, MO/Living Word Christian) recorded eight kills and six digs. Defensively,
Jordan Burton (Olathe, KS/Olathe South),
Madison Smith (Boonville, MO/Boonville),
Madison Offerman (Herscher, IL/Herscher) and Monaco all picked up two blocks.
Annie Arand (Washington, MO/St. Francis Borgia) had 17 assists and
Elise Mehaffy (Marion, IA/Marion) collected 11 assists, six digs and a block.
What's Next
S&T will travel to Kansas City, Missouri, to take on Rockhurst on Oct. 12 at 3:00 p.m. Next weekend, they will go to the Midwest Region Crossover in Hammond, Indiana, before they come back home on Oct. 25-26 to face McKendree and UMSL.
