Emma Puetz (Rolla, MO/Rolla), who recorded a second place finish in the Miners' first meet of the season on Friday, was named today as the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Athlete of the Week in women's cross country.
The weekly honor is the first-ever for a Missouri S&T student-athlete in women's cross country since the Miners joined the Great Lakes Valley Conference in 2005.
Puetz placed second out of 102 runners at the Southwest Baptist Invitational, posting a career-best time of 18:30.3 over five kilometers to help lead S&T to a sixth-place finish at the meet. The time she recorded was more than 20 seconds better than her previous five-kilometer mark.
Missouri S&T's next competition will take place on Friday, Sept. 15 at the Larry Young Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
