MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Thanks to a late goal by
Olivia Olson (Maryville, IL/Edwardsville), Missouri S&T's women's soccer team picked up a second tie on its season-opening road trip as the Miners played to a 2-2 draw Sunday afternoon against Christian Brothers.
Olson scored in the 83
rd minute as she pounced on a rebound from a shot by
Beth Roberts (Lake St. Louis, MO/Liberty) that was stopped but not corralled by CBU goalkeeper Gemma Crowe and hit it into the back of the net to even the contest.
The Miners (0-0-2) scored the initial goal of the game for the second time in as many games and as was the case on Friday, it was
Amelia Mundo (Northbrook, IL/Glenbrook North) that scored for S&T. Roberts got control of the ball on the Miners' side of midfield and sent a ball forward that got Mundo behind the Buccaneer defense on a breakaway that resulted in the goal in the ninth minute.
Christian Brothers (0-1-1) tied the score in the 41
st minute on a goal by Flavia Iorio, then took the lead six minutes into the second half when Lily Harrison scored.
The Miners held a 14-12 advantage in shots and had 10 on goal to seven for CBU.
Natalie Newman (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) was credited with five saves in goal for S&T.
Missouri S&T will open its home schedule next Sunday when it hosts Missouri Southern at noon.
