ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's soccer team recorded its first shutout of the season Friday night in its first home Great Lakes Valley Conference contest of the season, downing Southwest Baptist 3-0 at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
The Miners (2-2-2, 1-2 GLVC) bounced back from shutout losses in their first two GLVC matches by controlling matters throughout the night, outshooting the Bearcats (2-5-1, 0-3) 16-5 and allowing only one shot to reach goalkeeper
Anastasia Barcom (St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain).
S&T broke on top in the 13
th minute of play when
Amelia Mundo (Northbrook, IL/Glenbrook North) got to a pass from Hayley Prime in front of the net and beat SBU goalkeeper Cassandra Rushing to give the Miners the only goal they would need. The goal was the third of the season for Mundo and first since the opening weekend of action.
Mundo later assisted on the second Miner goal, which came when her corner kick was redirected by
Beth Roberts (Lake St. Louis, MO/Liberty) in front of the net and got by Rushing to double the S&T advantage. That goal came just over four minutes into the second half, then the Miners tacked on another goal in the 66
th minute as
Ava Hoenes (Columbia, MO/Hickman) scored on a shot from about 18 yards away after getting a feed from
Andersyn Foster (Belleville, IL/Althoff Catholic).
Missouri S&T will return to play Sunday when it hosts Drury (6-1, 3-0 GLVC) in a noon contest at Allgood-Bailey Stadium. The Panthers recorded a 1-0 win Friday at Maryville.
