ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's soccer team will look to get back into the win column this weekend as its plays its first Great Lakes Valley Conference matches on its home turf, playing host to Southwest Baptist and Drury. The Miners will host SBU on Hawaiian Night at 5 p.m. Friday, then take on Drury in a noon contest Sunday afternoon.
The Miners went into the start of conference play last weekend without a loss, but dropped a 2-0 decision at Quincy and a 1-0 game at Illinois Springfield to fall to 1-2-2 on the year. S&T has won its only game at home this season, a win on Sept. 10 over Missouri Southern at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
Amelia Mundo (Northbrook, IL/Glenbrook North) lead the Miners in goals with two and shares the team lead in points with
Beth Roberts (Lake St. Louis, MO/Liberty), who has four points on the year with a goal and two assists. S&T has scored six times on the season, as it has also received goals from
Andersyn Foster (Belleville, IL/Althoff Catholic),
Isabella Hubble (Mascoutah, IL/Mascoutah) and
Olivia Olson (Maryville, IL/Edwardsville).
Anastasia Barcom (St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) got the start in goal in both games last weekend and owns a 1.20 goals against average in 225 minutes of play. She has 15 saves on the season while
Natalie Newman (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood), who has played the other 225 minutes this year, has 10 saves and a 1.60 goals against mark.
ABOUT SOUTHWEST BAPTIST: The Bearcats are 2-4-1 overall on the season, but were blanked in their first two GLVC contests as they lost 3-0 decisions to Indianapolis and Lewis. SBU is paced in the scoring column by Tamerra Gantt with three goals and an assist, while Savannah Green has scored twice on the year and Olivia Baker has recorded four points with a goal and two assists. Aslynn Edison has started all seven games in goal and has a 1.85 goals against average.
ABOUT DRURY: The Panthers are out to a 5-1 start and opened their GLVC schedule with shutout wins over Lewis and Indianapolis, earning goalkeeper Kaitlin Knetzke the GLVC's Defensive Player of the Week award. Knetzke has a 0.50 goals against average and has recorded shutouts in four straight contests – the Panthers have not allowed a goal in their last 430 minutes of action heading into Friday's game at Maryville.
Tara Simon and Andrea Camargo have two goals apiece to lead the Panthers in the scoring department; Simon has an assist as well to give her a team-leading five points.
