ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's soccer team will seek to continue its unbeaten streak to begin the 2023 campaign as it starts Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a pair of road contests this weekend. The Miners will open up the league schedule Friday with a 5 p.m. contest against Quincy, before facing off with Illinois Springfield at noon Sunday.
Missouri S&T comes into its conference opener at 1-0-2 on the season, marking the first time in exactly two decades that they have gone unbeaten through the first three games of a season. The Miners picked up its first win Sunday with a 3-1 victory over Missouri Southern, getting goals from
Beth Roberts (Lake St. Louis, MO/Liberty),
Andersyn Foster (Belleville, IL/Althoff Catholic) and
Isabella Hubble (Mascoutah, IL/Mascoutah).
Amelia Mundo (Northbrook, IL/Glenbrook North) continues to lead the Miners in goals with two and shares the team lead in points with Roberts, who also assisted on a goal Sunday to reach four points on the season. S&T has scored six times in its first three contests, with the sixth tally coming from
Olivia Olson (Maryville, IL/Edwardsville).
Natalie Newman (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) has seen the bulk of the playing time in goal for S&T and has a 1.60 goals against average in 225 minutes of action.
Anastasia Barcom (St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) played the first half on Sunday and blanked the Lady Lions in her 45 minutes with two saves.
ABOUT QUINCY: The Hawks are still seeking their first win of the 2023 season as they come into Friday's game at 0-3-1. Quincy dropped its first three games of the season by a combined score of 12-2 before playing to a 3-3 tie Sunday against Eastern New Mexico in Kearney, Neb.
Lisa Albarran and Paige Nguyen have scored two goals apiece to lead the Hawks in that category; Albarran also has an assist to give her a team-high five points. Julia Mincher has played all four games in goal and has made 24 saves in 360 minutes of play.
ABOUT ILLINOIS SPRINGFIELD: The Prairie Stars are also looking to break into the win column for the first time this weekend – they will host Maryville Friday prior to the Miners' visit on Sunday – as they are 0-1-3 on the season. UIS played to 1-1 ties in each of its first three games of the season before dropping a 2-0 decision to visiting Northern Michigan on Sunday.
Sierra Cenek, Maggie Joos and Anna Schurz have scored the goals for the Prairie Stars, while Allison Mirimanian has a 1.25 goals against average and 21 saves in 360 minutes.
