Miners travel to Maryville to conclude regular season

ROLLA, Mo. - The Missouri S&T baseball team will land a spot in the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament when it wraps up its regular season schedule with a four-game series this weekend at Maryville in St. Louis.

The series will begin with a single game Friday afternoon at 2 p.m., then the teams will meet up in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and finish the series with a noon contest on Sunday.

Coming into play this weekend, the Miners (23-19, 14-14 GLVC) are currently sitting in a three-way tie for seventh place in the GLVC standings with Indianapolis and Missouri-St. Louis, with the top eight teams advancing to the conference tournament that will begin May 11 in Marion, Ill.  S&T is coming off a series sweep of UMSL, as Cole Hampton (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) had seven hits and 11 runs batted in and Dakota Sill (Lansing, KS/Lansing) added eight hits and drove in five.    
  
Hampton leads the Miners with a .358 average, 10 home runs and 51 runs batted in, while Sill is hitting .331 with a school record 31 stolen bases on the season. Chase Burgess (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) is batting .324 on the year and stolen 24 bases and Doug Wood (Liberty, MO/Liberty North) comes in with a .313 mark at the plate with nine home runs and 50 runs batted in. This season is the first in program history where the Miners have two players with at least nine home runs and 50 runs batted in.
 
On the mound, starting pitcher Ethan Morrow (Lenexa, KS/Shawnee Mission West) leads the pitching staff with 43.2 innings pitched as he moved his team-leading strikeout total to 45. Morrow enters the weekend with an earned run average of 6.60, while Matthew Kaiser (St. Louis, MO/Vianney) – who has the lowest ERA on the staff at 4.85 -- looks to build upon his outing against the Tritons where he fanned three in 5.1 innings to give him 36 strikeouts on the year.
 
The Saints (29-15, 18-10 GLVC) enter the weekend in fourth place in the GLVC standings and is coming off a series split with William Jewell, as Maryville won the opener by the score of 10-4 and the series finale by the score of 18-4. 
 
Maryville is led offensively by Michael Gould as he is batting a GLVC-best .455 that includes a team highs of 76 hits, nine home runs and 60 RBI. Elias Stevens leads the team with 12 home runs and has recorded 51 hits and 14 doubles while batting .309.  

On the mound, the Saints are led by Jamie Young with 52 innings pitched as he has fanned 45 batters on the season, while Ben Gregory leads the pitching rotation with 59 strikeouts in 10 starts.
