Cole Hampton (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) has earned his second All-Midwest region honor for the 2023 season, this time a first-team selection as he was chosen to the squad announced Wednesday by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.
Hampton earned the award after leading the Miners in a plethora of offensive categories, including a batting average of .354, 12 home runs and 100 total bases while also driving in a team-high 57 runs. He was a first-team selection on the Great Lakes Valley Conference's all-conference squad and was earlier named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's all-region second team.
He finished the 2023 GLVC campaign with two top-five finishes, ending up fifth in slugging percentage with a percentage of .694 and with a 1.194 on base plus slugging percentage (OPS) while finishing ninth in the GLVC with his 12 home runs. In the infield and mainly at third base, Hampton also had a .922 fielding percentage while recording 52 assists this season.
The selection to the all-region first team makes Hampton eligible for All-America honors; that team will be announced just ahead of the NCAA Division II Championships next month.
