ROLLA, Mo. – On the eve of its first opportunity to play in an NCAA Division II tournament event in 54 years, two members of Missouri S&T's golf team were named today to the Great Lakes Valley Conference's all-league team for the 2022-23 season.

Carl Miltun (Gilbert, AZ/Williams Field), the medalist at the GLVC Championships, earned an automatic spot on the team as a top-five finisher at the conference meet.  The other Miner selected was Gustav Liljedahl (Uppsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan), who was selected by the conference coaches to fill out the other five spots on the All-GLVC team.

Besides winning the individual championship at the conference meet, Miltun was also the medalist at the Findlay Spring Invitational during the year and also finished second at the Tunica Cup and third at the Hillcat Classic in Oklahoma.  He also recorded another top-10 finish during the season when he placed eighth at the Midwest Regional in October.

During the season, Miltun averaged 71.3 shots in the 27 rounds he played.  He set new GLVC records in his winning performance at the conference championships by posting an overall score of 203 to finish 13 shots under par and winning the event by 10 strokes.  His second round score of 63, the lowest in GLVC history, also tied the course record at Paradise Pointe Golf Course.

Liljedahl opened the 2022-23 season by earning medalist honors at the Arch Cup with an overall score of 135 that included a first round 64.  He also finished in a tie for first at the Watkins Invitational in Winona, Minn. – where the Miners will be competing at the NCAA Central/Midwest Regional beginning on Thursday, but at a different course – and tied for fourth at the Music City Invitational in April.

During the season, Liljedahl also played 27 rounds and averaged 73.3 strokes per round; his lowest 54-hole score of 218 came at the Findlay Spring Invitational.

S&T's Jeppe Thybo (Esbjerg, Denmark/Rybners Gymnasium) was the Miners' nominee for the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award, which honors student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These individuals must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. The honorees from each institution are now eligible to become one of their school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.

Missouri S&T opens play in the regional tournament Thursday at The Bridges Golf Course.  S&T will be paired with Missouri-St. Louis and Harding in the opening round and will begin its round at 11 a.m.
