ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's basketball team has added its first newcomer for the 2023-24 season, as Cameron Stovall, a forward-guard from St. Louis, has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Miners next season.

Stovall is a 6-5 forward from Vashon High School in St. Louis, who recently captured its fourth straight Missouri Class 4 state championship.  Stovall played in the last two state title contests, scoring 16 points in the 2022 win over Father Tolton and reaching double figures again with 10 in the Wolverines' win over Park Hills Central to win their most recent championship last month. 

He scored in double figures in all four of the Final Four games that the Wolverines played in over the past two seasons and also had 22 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots in the 2022 district championship victory over Soldan.

"It is always beneficial to your program to include players who have won at the highest level," said Missouri S&T head coach Bill Walker.  "Cam has certainly done that at Vashon.  He has played against the best teams in Missouri and across the nation, both in high school and on the Nike EYBL (Elite Youth Basketball League) circuit in the summer.

During the 2022-23 season, Stovall averaged 7.6 points per game – on a team that had just one double figure scorer on average in a balanced scoring attack – while shooting 57 percent from the field and 70 percent at the free throw line.  As a junior, he averaged 6.7 points while shooting just better than 50 percent from the floor, while pulling down 3.3 rebounds and recording 12 steals and 10 blocked shots.  Stovall also played for Bradley Beal Elite in the EYBL league, one of the top summer league teams in the state of Missouri.

"Cam has managed to excel both on the court and in the classroom," Walker added.  "He is a very versatile athlete who can play anywhere on the floor. He will be a terrific Miner."

Missouri S&T finished the 2022-23 season with a record of 16-11 and went 10-10 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference; the winning mark for the Miners was the first since in 25 seasons.  The 16 wins included one over NCAA Division II quarterfinalist Missouri-St. Louis and two more over McKendree, who reached the championship game of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional.
