ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T shortstop Doug Wood (Liberty, MO/Liberty North), who broke the program's career home run record as part of a part of a huge weekend for the Miner baseball team, was named today at the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Player of the Week.

In the Miners' four-game sweep at Southwest Baptist – one where S&T outscored SBU 59-15 over the four games – Wood batted .643 in the four contests with nine hits in 14 at-bats, while reaching base in 16 of his 21 plate appearances.  Among Wood's nine hits in the series were five for extra bases and three of them were home runs, including his 22^nd career homer in Saturday's 12-3 win that broke a record that had stood since 1998.

Wood had hits in all four games of the series, beginning with a one-for-three night in Thursday's 8-0 win as he also reached base twice on walks.  He was two-for-three in game one of Friday's doubleheader with a double, home run and three runs scored, then went three-for-three with five runs scored and a career-high six runs batted in during the nightcap.

The fifth-year senior capped his weekend with three hits in five at-bats Saturday and drove in two more runs.  Wood finished the weekend by scoring 10 runs and driving in 11; he drove in runs on seven of his nine hits during the series and completed the weekend with a 1.500 slugging percentage and on base plus slugging (OPS) mark of 2.262.

Wood is the first Miner since 2019 to be named as the GLVC's Player of the Week and first S&T player to win a weekly award from the GLVC since Brenden Garza was selected as the Pitcher of the Week early in the 2020 season.

In the four-game series, S&T set a new record for runs scored in a doubleheader with 39 on Friday and the 59 runs were the most ever by a Miner team in any four-game stretch in program history.

Missouri S&T, who extended its winning streak to seven games with the four-game sweep, will return to action on April 18 when it hosts Pittsburg State at the Ballpark at S&T.
