ROLLA, Mo. - The Missouri S&T men's volleyball team will return to the court Thursday evening as it hosts the first of two matches to close the week, facing Quincy in a rematch at 7 p.m. before taking on Kansas Wesleyan the following evening at 5 p.m. in Gibson Arena.
The Miners (7-8) enter the matchup against Quincy on a four-game winning streak, with its latest victory coming against Emmanuel in straight sets Saturday afternoon in Washington, Mo. In that decision,
Nate Meyer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) led S&T with 15 kills and
Josh Duett (Grain Valley, Mo./Grain Valley) added 10. Defensively,
Caleb Rohlwing (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and
Jordan Orr (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) had the Miners' two blocks in the match.
Back on Jan. 27, S&T traveled to Quincy where the Hawks defeated the Miners in straight sets. Meyer had 11 kills in the match and
Brayden Kuruzovich (State College, Penn./State College Area School District) had 37 assists for S&T, while the Hawks were led in kills by Raje Alleyne with 19; Jonas Holzinger and Logan Gieseke recorded three blocks each.
This season, the Miners are led by Meyer with 191 kills as he is averaging a team-high 3.75 kills per set on 407 total attacks.
Aaron Sallade (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) is second on the team with 113 kills and is averaging just under three points per set. Defensively, S&T is led in blocks by
Grogan Kraus (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) with 28 and
Caleb Rohlwing (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) has contributed 23 on the season.
ABOUT QUINCY:
The Hawks (5-11) enter this match having lost nine of its last 10 matches; its only victory in that stretch was a 3-1 win against Milwaukee School of Engineering on March 1. Quincy's latest defeat was a five-set loss at the hands of Cornerstone Monday evening where Alleyne had 26 kills and four total blocks.
Alleyne leads the team with 269.5 points as he is averaging 4.9 points per set and 4.1 kills per set. AJ Goedheer is second on the team with 126 points as he is the only other QU player to exceed 100 kills on the season with 109. Defensively, Roman Deryckere leads the Hawks with 41 blocks on the season, while Alleyne has stopped 34 attacks for points.
ABOUT KANSAS WESLEYAN:
The Coyotes (8-12, 3-6 GPAC) will participate in the Central Christian Invitational on March 8 and 9 with four matches before coming to Gibson Arena for Friday's match.
Prior to the Invitational at Central Christian College, KWU is led in kills by Viet Nguyen with 143, while Justin Burras has tallied 118 as both players are averaging at least two kills per set.
Defensively, the Coyotes are in blocks by Kahlib Lawrance with 47 and Colin Lindo with 37 on the season.
