Miltun finishes third as Miners place second at Hillcat Classic

OWASSO, Okla. – Missouri S&T shot its lowest round of the tournament Tuesday, but Rogers State did as well and pushed the Miner golf team into second place in the final standings of the Hillcat Classic at Bailey Ranch Golf Course.

The Miners shot a 289 in round three – after rounds of 300 and 290 on Monday – but Rogers State, who held a four-shot lead over S&T heading into the final round, was six shots better than the Miners on Tuesday to take the team title.  S&T did move past Union in the standings as it finished two shots ahead of the Bulldogs and was eight shots better than Harding.

Carl Miltun (Gilbert, AZ/Williams Field) posted his second round under par in the tournament with a final round score of 68, vaulting him to third place in the individual standings with a final score of 217.  Miltun's day included an eagle on the par-five 14th hole, the lone eagle posted by a Miner in the tournament.

Jeppe Thybo (Esbjerg, Denmark/Rybners Gymnasium) finished in a tie for eighth with a final total of 221 after shooting an even par 72, while Gustav Liljedahl (Uppsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan) finished with a 223 to tie for 11th.  The Miners' fourth scoring mark on Tuesday came from Joey Friedel, who shot a 74 and finished tied for 23rd in the tournament with a total of 231.

Union's JJ Zimmer was the tournament medalist with a score of 209 as he had a pair of rounds with scores of 68 during the 54-hole event.

Missouri S&T's next tournament will take place in two weeks at the Findlay Spring Invitational, which will be held in Lexington, Ky., on March 27 and 28.
