Swadley takes shot put to head Miner track efforts in Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. – Missouri S&T picked up a win from Nathan Swadley (Willard, MO/Willard) in the shot put and second place finishes from Jacob Luebbert (Warsaw, MO/Warsaw) and Annmarie Tyson on Friday while competing at the Lewis Invitational.

Swadley captured the shot put competition with a season-best throw of 58-4 ¾, while Luebbert had his second place showing in the weight throw with a mark of 61-7.  Tyson headed the performances for the women's team by placing second in the high jump with a clearance of 5-3.

Aaron Toben (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) had a fifth place showing in the men's 400-meters with a season-best time of 50.28 seconds, while Samuel Schmidt had his fastest time of the year while finishing fifth in the 60-meters in 7.01 seconds.  Swadley also finished fifth in the weight throw with a top mark of 54-1¾ as did Jake Anderson (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) in the pole vault with a clearance of 14-8.

Hayes Pateidl (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) placed seventh in the mile with a time of 4:15.68 and Sam Wright (Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro) took sixth in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles in 8.61 seconds.  Paulvin Horton (Raleigh, NC/Garner) had a sixth place effort in the triple jump with a mark of 45-3 ½ and also ended up in a tie for seventh in the high jump as he cleared 6-2,  S&T had a seventh place finish as well from Tyler Marchert (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) in the shot put at 49-11, while Owen Fraser (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville) placed eighth at 48-1 3/4.

Anderson was ninth in the long jump with a mark of 20-6¼ as was Fraser in the weight throw at 51-11¾. Kyle Burke (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield) was 10th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.74 seconds.

Besides Tyson, the women's squad got a third place finish from Olivia Henkel in the high jump as she cleared 5-3, but finished in a tie for third based on misses in the competition.

The Miners had three of the top five finishers in the shot put, with Paige Lambright taking third at 38-4, Jessica Rhoads fourth with a mark of 38-2 and Sydney Stephens fifth at 37-8.  Stephens also placed fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 49-11¾ and Rhoads was fifth in that event at 48-2¾.

Maya Wright finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.50 seconds, after qualifying sixth in 9.48 seconds.  Kassandra Hayes took ninth in the high jump as she cleared 5-1 and Sydney Gratz finished in a tie for 10th in the pole vault by clearing 10-7.

Missouri S&T will compete next weekend at the Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kan., the last scheduled meet for the Miners prior to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships.
