Miners travel to UAH for four-game weekend series

ROLLA, Mo. - With opening weekend in the rearview mirror, the Missouri S&T baseball team will travel to Huntsville, Ala., to play a four-game series against the Chargers starting Friday afternoon with a doubleheader at 11 a.m. The teams will play two more games Saturday with that doubleheader scheduled for a 11 a.m. start.   
 
The Miners enter this weekend's doubleheader at 2-2 after splitting a four-game series with Wayne State (Neb.) where S&T won the first and last games of the series. The Miners gained a split of the set with an 8-1 victory in the finale on Monday.
 
In the series, Dakota Sill (Lansing, KS/Lansing) led S&T in nearly all offensive statistical category, going seven-of-14 at the plate with two triples, two doubles and a solo homer. Sill tallied 16 total bases in the four games, stole four bases and scored six times. Doug Wood (Liberty, MO/Liberty North) led the Miners with six runs batted in while adding four hits, which include a solo homerun as he scored three times.  
 
On the mound, each starting pitcher threw at least four innings in the WSC series. Elijah Gross (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) picked up a save to preserve the win in the opening game of the series, while Ethan Morrow (Lenexa, KS/Shawnee Mission West) opened his outing with five scoreless innings on Sunday and Ben Belgrave (Cary, IL/Cary-Grove) had four scoreless frames in his outing.
 
ABOUT ALABAMA HUNTSVILLE:
The Chargers (7-5, 1-2 GSC) hosted Trevecca Nazarene in a non-conference matchup last Wednesday where the Chargers defeated the Trojans by a score of 13-6 as Landon Ezzell led UAH with four hits and seven runs batted in. UAH faced off against Lee University for a three-game series last weekend, where the Chargers dropped two of the three contests.
 
This season, the Chargers are led in batting by Ezzell with a .528 batting average, including 28 hits, four doubles and 38 total bases while leading the team with 19 runs batted in. 
 
On the mound, UAH is led by Connor Brooks who has pitched 16.2 innings and struck out 18 batters while recording a 2.70 earned run average in three starts. 
 
Another top arm for the Chargers is Andre Orselli, as he has pitched 14.2 innings while giving up five runs on 13 hits in three starts.
