11/2/2023 11:02:00 AM

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's volleyball team will hit the road for the remainder of the 2023 season, beginning with a match Saturday at Maryville University that figures to have implications both on the conference and regional levels.

The Miners, who have won their last three games to move to 14-9 overall and 5-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, will take on the 15-9 Saints, who are one game in front of S&T at 6-4 in the GLVC coming into Saturday's 3 p.m. contest.

S&T is coming off a weekend where it posted wins over Indianapolis and 13th-ranked Lewis to move into seventh place in a tightly-contested middle of the pack in the conference race.  S&T took down UIndy in straight sets on Friday as it recorded a .336 attack percentage in the match, then topped Lewis behind 16 kills from Madelyn Mason (Mount Horeb, WI/Mount Horeb), this week's Molten/GLVC Offensive Player of the Week.

Mason leads the Miners with 298 kills on the season – she is ninth in the GLVC in that department-- and owns an attack percentage of .259 while also leading S&T with 78 blocks.  Jordan Burton (Olathe, KS/Olathe South) has recorded 282 kills on the season and Shelby Ply (Rolla, MO/Rolla), who is block behind Mason with 77 for the year, has 213 kills and a .339 attack percentage that ranks ninth in the GLVC.

The Miners rank second in the GLVC in blocks with 2.17 per set and have one of the league leaders in blocks per set individually in Madison Offerman (Herscher, IL/Herscher), who has 55 blocks in 55 sets.  S&T also has another player among the league leaders in Alina Carrillo (Oviedo, FL/Hagerty), who is 10th in service aces with 33.

Mia Alessio (Channahon, IL/Minooka) leads S&T with 333 digs, while Annie Arand (Washington, MO/St. Francis Borgia) has 507 set assists on the season and Elise Mehaffy (Marion, IA/Marion) has 466.

ABOUT MARYVILLE: The Saints, who qualified for the GLVC Tournament for the first time since joining the conference a year ago, currently sit in fifth place in the league standings going into Saturday's match.  Maryville picked up its first-ever win over UIndy on Saturday on the strength of 18 kills from Ella Brinkman, who leads the team with 292 kills on the season.  Hannah Dressing has 45 blocks to lead the Saints, while Abbie Schnell ranks among the GLVC leaders in assists with 523.

The Saints were listed among the top 10 teams in the NCAA Midwest Region when those rankings were released on Wednesday.
