Emma Puetz (Rolla, MO/Rolla) has landed the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Runner of the Week award in women's cross country following her performance Friday at the Chile Pepper Festival at the University of Arkansas.
Puetz finished 31
st overall in a race of 304 competitors – a majority coming from the NCAA Division I ranks – and finished fifth among the NCAA Division II runners in the five-kilometer race. Her time of 17:52, which was a personal-best mark, was the second-fastest five-kilometer time in program history and made her just the second runner to run a five-kilometer race in under 18 minutes.
Puetz earned her previous award following the Miners' first meet of the season, when she finished second at the Southwest Baptist Invitational.
The Miners will take part in the Brian T. Simpson Invitational Saturday in Columbia.
