ROLLA, Mo. – A goal late in the first half was enough to send Missouri S&T's women's soccer team to a loss in its regular season finale Sunday, as the Miners dropped a 1-0 decision to Truman State on a damp afternoon at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
Despite the setback, which dropped S&T to 6-7-3 overall and ended its conference slate with a 5-7-1 mark, the Miners' season will continue next weekend as they will play in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. S&T will go in as the eighth seed and will play regular season champion Maryville next Sunday in St. Louis at 12 p.m..
In the 43
rd minute of play, Truman's Quinn Nauman got a pass on the wing from Aubrey Kaupas and hit a shot by Miner goalkeeper
Viktoria Johnson (Granite City, IL/Granite City) for the only goal of the contest.
S&T had a pair of good scoring chances in the final 20 minutes, first in the 72
nd minute when a pass on the end line was just off the mark. Moments later,
Ava Hoenes (Columbia, MO/Hickman) hit a shot off the crossbar in the 75
th minute and the rebound came back to
Jenna Marti (Sammamish, WA/Eastside Catholic), whose shot barely went over the top of the net.
The Miners had an 11-4 advantage in shots, but had only four of their 11 shots on goal plus the one that hit the crossbar. Johnson made one save in goal for S&T.
