S&T gets big road win at UIndy on Olson's second half goal

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's soccer team picked up a big road win in Great Lakes Valley Conference play Friday night, getting a goal in the second half from Olivia Olson (Maryville, IL/Edwardsville) to give it a 1-0 win over Indianapolis.

The win moved the Miners to 5-4-3 overall and 4-4-1 in the GLVC, allowing S&T to move into a tie for sixth place in the standings along with Illinois Springfield and Missouri-St. Louis and giving the Miners a four-point lead over Quincy, who is the first team outside the top eight in the standings.

Olson scored in the 70th minute after the Miners got the ball off a giveaway near midfield, as she got a pass sent ahead to her; after splitting two defenders, she put a shot past UIndy goalkeeper Sabrina Shaw.

S&T had a chance to take the lead a little over 10 minutes into the second half, but a shot by Jenna Marti (Sammamish, WA/Eastside Catholic) caromed off the crossbar before Olson scored about 10 minutes later.

After the Olson goal, the Greyhounds (3-6-3, 2-4-2 GLVC) had only two shots and neither was on net as the Miners won for the third time in their last four games.

UIndy outshot S&T 16-6 and had seven shots on goal to S&T's three; Anastasia Barcom (St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) finished with seven saves to earn her second shutout of the season.

Missouri S&T wraps up its road trip Sunday with a noon contest against Lewis in Romeoville, Ill.
