CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Independent Volleyball Association has named
Caleb Rohlwing (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) as the Defensive Player of Week for Jan 9-15 after recording a team-high nine blocks in the first three matches of the season. Rohlwing recorded an average of 1.13 blocks per set as he is the first Miner to win a weekly award in the first season in program history.
In the first match of the season at 12th-ranked Loyola Chicago, Rohlwing assisted on two blocks while collecting seven points. The next night at Lewis, Rohlwing finished with three blocks while collecting 5.5 points, then had two blocks while adding an assisted block for 4.5 points in the Miners' home opener when they defeated Kentucky State on Saturday.
Rohlwing ranks first on the team with the nine blocks and is third with 17 total points.
The Miners will begin a three-game road trip starting Friday at Purdue Fort Wayne at 7 p.m. Eastern time.
