ROLLA, Mo. – Despite holding an advantage in shots Friday night, Missouri S&T's women's soccer team was unable to solve Truman State's defense or goalkeeper Beth Hopwood as the Bulldogs handed the Miners a 2-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference loss at the S&T Soccer Field.
The Bulldogs (3-0-3, 1-0-1 GLVC) got both of their goals in the first 22 minutes of play, which came on their first two shots of the contest. Gianna Gorman scored the first goal in the 14
th minute, then Isabel Fultz headed in a cross from Jessica Kozol for the second tally in the 22
nd minute.
The Miners (0-3-2, 0-2 GLVC) had opportunities as they outshot Truman 11-5, including a 5-3 margin in shots on net. Two of the better chances came in the second half, one when
Sydney Gratz (Geneva, IL/Geneva) shot wide on a rush down the field and another when
Danielle Hopkins (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley) hit a free kick just over the top of the net in the 78
th minute.
Paige VanDaele (Cottleville, MO/Francis Howell Central) had three of S&T's 11 shots, while
Viktoria Johnson (Granite City, IL/Granite City) finished with one save in goal. The Bulldogs, however, have yet to allow a goal in six games this season.
Missouri S&T will return to action Sunday when it faces Quincy in a noon contest in Quincy, Ill.
