ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's soccer team will play its first home conference match as part of a split weekend, as S&T will also been seeking its first victory of the 2022 season when it takes the pitch later this week.
The Miners will host Truman State Friday at 5 p.m., before heading back on the road for a noon contest on Sunday at Quincy. S&T will take on a team that has yet to lose in the current campaign, then take on one that is also seeking to win for the first time.
S&T played to its second straight draw against an undefeated team when it played to a 1-1 tie against 16
th-ranked McKendree on Friday at the S&T Soccer Field, but dropped its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener Sunday by a 3-0 count at Illinois Springfield. The Prairie Stars scored twice in the first half and added a goal in the final 45 minutes for the final margin of victory, dropping S&T to 0-2-2 on the year.
In the McKendree contest,
Andersyn Foster (Belleville, IL/Althoff Catholic) scored the first official goal of the season for S&T when she converted a penalty kick in the early stages of the second half. However, the Bearcats got a penalty kick opportunity a short time later and tied the game before the teams ended up playing to a draw.
Viktoria Johnson (Granite City, IL/Granite City), who has played every minute in goal this season for the Miners, made three saves in that game and three more on Sunday; she comes into the weekend with a 1.75 goals against average and 10 saves in 360 minutes of action.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: Truman State has yet to allow a goal this season in five games, but is just 2-0-3 as the Bulldogs have scored just twice in those five outings. Truman got 1-0 wins over Davenport and Upper Iowa before playing to scoreless ties against Quincy in a non-conference game and Southwest Baptist in its GLVC opener on Sunday.
Avery Bohnenstiehl and Rachel Homoki have the goals for the Bulldogs this season, while goalkeepers Tatumn Damron and Beth Hopwood have split the duties in the nets and have recorded a combined 22 saves along the way.
The Miners played to a scoreless tie with the Bulldogs in the regular season matchup last season, then won 2-0 in Kirksville when the teams met in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament.
Quincy has been the reverse of Truman thus far, as the Hawks have not scored in their first five contests and have allowed three, putting them at 0-2-3 going into a Friday contest at Missouri-St. Louis.
Olivia Kindt has played all five games in goal for the Hawks and has a 0.60 goals against average with 31 saves. Jessica Felix has taken 12 shots to lead Quincy in that department, while Ella Wolfard has taken 11.
Quincy won the only meeting between the teams last season, taking a 5-3 decision in Quincy with six of the eight goals in the game coming in the second half. The Hawks opened their GLVC schedule by playing to a scoreless tie with Drury on Sunday.
