ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's
Andy Huffman (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit), who earned 13 All-America awards as well as Academic All-America honors as part of a distinguished career in the Miner swimming program, was named today to the Academic All-District team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Huffman, who recently earned his bachelor's degree in engineering management at Missouri S&T, was one of five swimmers named to the 10-member squad for NCAA Division II's District 4 as well as eight individuals from Great Lakes Valley Conference institutions.
During his four seasons at Missouri S&T, Huffman earned All-America awards on 13 occasions, including three during the 2021-22 season. He finished 10
th in the 200-yard breaststroke, 13
th in the 400-yard individual medley and 14
th in the 200-yard butterfly at the NCAA meet in March.
Last year, Huffman became the first Missouri S&T student-athlete to be named as the recipient of the NCAA Elite 90 Award and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America first team. Throughout his career, he has also earned additional academic honors, including being a three-time selection to the conference's all-academic team, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America's Scholar All-America squad and to the GLVC's Brother James Gaffney Distinguished Scholars list for completing an academic year with a 4.0 grade point average.
At the 2021 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships, Huffman earned All-America awards in seven events. His performances were headed by finishing third in the 200-yard breaststroke – his top career finish at an NCAA meet -- as well as a sixth place showing in the 200-yard butterfly. He also won the consolation final in the 200-yard individual medley and was part of four relay teams (both medley relays and the 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays) that scored points at the national meet.
He holds three school records, two set at last year's national meet with marks of 1:47.47 in the 200-IM and the 200-butterfly with his time of 1:46.50. He is also the holder of the S&T school record in the 400-yard individual medley of 3:51.98.
Huffman won four GLVC championships during his career at S&T, twice winning the 200-yard breaststroke (2019 and 2021) as well as titles in the 200- and 400-yard individual medley; he was named as the GLVC's Freshman of the Year following the 2019 conference meet.
Huffman is eligible for Academic All-America honors; that team will be announced on June 14.
