ROLLA, Mo. – Coming off another 4-0 weekend, the Missouri S&T baseball team will be back at home at the Ballpark at S&T this weekend as they continue a 15-game homestand with the beginning of the Great Lakes Valley Conference play this weekend against Truman State for a four game series beginning Friday afternoon.
The Miners (11-6) are tied for the fifth-longest active winning streak in NCAA Division II, having rattled off eight in a row following a four-game sweep of Missouri-St. Louis over the weekend at home.
Garrett Weiner (Alton, IL/Marquette) checks into play this weekend with a .421 batting average and tied
Aaron Berkhoff (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain) for the team lead in home runs with four after smashing a pair of long balls Saturday and has now driven in 18 runs on the season while slugging .754.
Doug Wood (Liberty, MO/Liberty North) raised his average to .352 over the weekend and has now hit safely in six-straight games after a 6-11 weekend against the Tritons.
Brady Voss (Lake St. Louis, MO/Liberty) delivered a go-ahead two-run double in the finale Sunday to cap a come from behind win and is now up to .345 on the season following another big weekend in which he went 7-12 with nine RBI and a home run as well. Also hitting .345 is
Andrew Branson (St. James, MO/St. James), who went 6-13 over the weekend with six RBI as he belted his second home run of the season in game two Saturday.
Cade Meier (Dakota, IL/Dakota) picked up his second win of the season in the series opener Saturday and sports a 3.00 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 12 innings of work.
Dylan Mollett (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) took a no-decision last time out but remains 2-0 on the year with a team-high 27 strikeouts in 18 2/3 innings.
Chasen Anderson (Moscow Mills, MO/Troy Buchanan) picked up his third save of the season in relief of Meier in game one and has struck out nine in his five relief appearances this season.
Elijah Gross (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit West) was stellar out of the bullpen in game four, working four innings over one-hit baseball to help S&T rally for the win, as he improved to 2-1 on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.70 on the season.
Ethan Morrow (Lenexa, KS/Shawnee Mission West) recorded his first collegiate win in relief Saturday in his fourth game of the season and is third on the club with 14 1/3 innings of work to his credit.
The Bulldogs (9-15) have already surpassed their win total from 2021 by two in their first 24 games of the season and are on pace to post their most successful season since 2017. TSU took three out of four games from Wisconsin Parkside in Kirksville over the weekend and have won five of their last six after dropping five-straight.
At the plate, Brennan Perkins and Holden Missey lead the way as they both enter the weekend batting .345, with the former leading the team with six home runs and 27 runs batted in while the latter checks in with a team-leading nine doubles, five home runs and 15 RBI. Connor McKenna leads the way with three complete games this season and a 2-3 with a 5.02 ERA and has struck out a team-best 40 against nine walks in 37 2/3 innings of work. Alex Leary, the reigning GLVC Pitcher of the Week, is coming off his best outing of the season, striking out 10 Rangers over seven innings while allowing a run on three hits in his longest start of the season to improve to 2-3 and lower his ERA to 8.31. Out of the bullpen, Missey has both of the Bulldogs' saves this season and has struck out eight in five appearances. Tucker Olesen leads the team with 10 appearances in relief while Cole Eggerding and Jordan Marlott have been regulars in the TSU relief corp.
All-time in the series, S&T leads 53-38 and took three out of four from the Bulldogs last season in Kirksville. A Truman State win in game three of that series snapped an 11-game winning streak for S&T, dating all the way back to the 2017 season.
