Following postponement, Miners return to floor Saturday at Maryville

ROLLA, Mo. – After seeing its three-game winning streak get snapped on Saturday, Missouri S&T's men's basketball team will continue its weather-altered road stretch on the road Saturday when it takes on Maryville University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game in St. Louis.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Miners' scheduled game with Lindenwood on Thursday was postponed due to the winter weather that has worked its way into the Midwest – that game has been rescheduled for Feb. 14 – so S&T can now set its focus on Saturday's matchup as it comes into the game at 9-10 overall and 5-7 in the GLVC.

S&T saw its winning streak end after dropping an 82-76 decision Saturday at Drury, a game in the Miners overcame deficits of 13 and eight points during the game but couldn't rally from a third deficit down the stretch.

Julien Smith (Fort Worth, TX/Northwest) led the Miners with 24 points in the loss and continues to lead the GLVC in scoring entering play this weekend with an average of 20.5 points per game.  Smith also leads the conference with 3.6 three-point baskets per game, while also ranking fourth in the GLVC with his mark of 82.9 percent at the free throw line and among the top 15 in the league from three-point range at 43.4 percent.

S&T is also getting 11.3 points per game from Kaden Froebe (Lincoln, IL/Lincoln) – who ranks fourth in the GLVC with his 40 steals – and 10.8 per game from Alex Strating (Wassenaar, Netherlands/American School of the Hague), the third-ranked field goal shooter in the conference at 61 percent.  The Miners also have two others among the conference statistical leaders in Mahamadou Kaba-Camera (Conakry, Guinea/Balboa City (San Diego, CA)), who ranks sixth in blocked shots with 21 on the season and Dylan Singleton (Lincoln, IL/Lincoln), who has made 28 steals and ranks 10th in the conference in that department.

ABOUT MARYVILLE: The Saints are looking to break out of a recent tailspin, as they have dropped five consecutive games after losing 85-77 Monday at Quincy.  Maryville – who is not scheduled to play on Thursday – last won when it beat William Jewell on Jan. 6 and has fallen to 9-10 overall and 3-8 in the GLVC due to its recent slide in which it has lost the five games by an average of 5.4 points per game.

Maryville has four double figure scorers, led by Ari Jackson with an average of 13.3 points per game.  Jackson is among the GLVC leaders in three-pointers with 43 and is shooting nearly 50 percent from three-point range.  Cameron Scales is averaging 10.7 points per contest and Kelvin Swims is scoring 10.1 per game; the fourth double figure scorer, Jaelon Hood, has averaged 12.8 per game but has played in only five games this season.

Daniel Farris leads the Saints with 69 assists and 22 steals on the season, while JT Morgan is the top rebounder for Maryville with 5.3 per game (Scales is pulling down 5.2 per contest) and Jaeden Smith has connected 23 times from long range at a rate of 47.9 percent.  As a team, the Saints are holding teams to 43.4 percent shooting from the field and 69 points per game, but are making just 32.8 percent of their three-point attempts.
