ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T guard
Kaden Froebe (Lincoln, IL/Lincoln) was named today as the first recipient of the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Player of the Week award for the 2022-23 season, as he earned the honor after recording a pair of double-doubles in S&T's two wins in the opening weekend of action.
Froebe averaged 16.5 points, 11 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals in the wins at the Greenstay Inn & Suites Classic at Drury. In the Miners' 90-89 overtime win over Lake Superior State on Friday, he had 15 points and 12 rebounds as he went six-of-nine from the field in the game. The following day, Froebe recorded 18 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals and also went eight-of-nine from the field in a 78-43 victory over Northwood.
The double-doubles were the sixth and seventh for Froebe in his career at S&T as he helped the Miners open a season with back-to-back wins over NCAA Division II foes for the first time since the 1991-92 season. It also marked the first time since the 2016-17 season that a Miner earned the league's weekly award, which was won at that time by Randy Holmes.
Missouri S&T will open its home schedule Tuesday when it takes on Westminster at 7:30 p.m. at Gibson Arena.
