ROLLA, Mo. – Producing the first three-goal game by a Miner in 11 seasons, the third of
Ally Hasken's (Freeport, IL/Freeport) goals was the difference as Missouri S&T's women's soccer team picked up a 3-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference win Friday evening over Missouri-St. Louis at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
Hasken scored in the sixth minute of play, then tallied second half goals in the 56
th and 62
nd minutes to rally the Miners (2-5-4, 2-4-2 GLVC) to their first home victory of the 2022 season.
The first goal came after
Paige VanDaele (Cottleville, MO/Francis Howell Central) got loose in the Tritons' half of the field, then after cutting back towards the middle, fed Hasken and she hit a shot into the upper left corner of the net to give the Miners an early lead.
UMSL (5-6-1, 3-4-1 GLVC) tied the game with just over a minute remaining in the first half when Cammie Robinson scored after the ball got played to the front of the net and she redirected the loose ball into the goal. The Tritons took the lead in the 53
rd minute when Jayln Richardson had a ball come to her off an S&T defender and hit a long shot past
Viktoria Johnson (Granite City, IL/Granite City) just inside the far post.
But S&T answered right back, as Hasken sent a pass ahead to
Sydney Gratz (Geneva, IL/Geneva), who in turn dropped the ball back off to Hasken for a one-timer that sailed over the head of UMSL goalkeeper Mary Kate Neal. Just under six minutes later, Hasken would strike again with the go-ahead goal.
The Miners got a corner kick opportunity and the ball was cleared out in the center of the field to Hasken, who sent a shot in from just beyond the arc into the upper left corner to put S&T back into the lead.
UMSL had just one shot on goal after the go-ahead tally, but that effort was partially blocked and Johnson was able to easily corral it.
The Tritons had a 24-5 advantage in shots on the night and had nine on goal to S&T's five, but Johnson was credited with seven saves on the evening.
The last Miner to score three times in a game was Leah Willliams, who did so in a 2011 win over William Jewell.
S&T will be idle until next Friday when it takes on McKendree in a 5 p.m. GLVC contest in Lebanon, Ill.
