S&T's Jorgensen lands GLVC men's soccer Player of the Week honors

10/3/2022 1:53:00 PM

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's Jason Jorgensen (Florence, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Santa Maria), who had a hand in all four goals scored by the Miners in their two games over the weekend, was named today as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week for men's soccer.

Jorgensen, the first Miner to win the league's offensive honor in nearly five seasons, had an assist on the Miners' lone tally – scored by Jimmy Sanchez (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell Central) -- in their 1-0 victory Friday over Southwest Baptist at Allgood-Bailey Stadium, then scored twice and added an assist as the Miners played to a 3-3 tie Sunday with Drury.

On Sunday, Jorgensen scored twice in the first half less than two minutes apart to give S&T a 2-1 lead in the contest.  With the score tied at 2-2 in the 74th minute, Jorgensen made a feed to the front of the net to Sigurd Semlitsch (Oslo, Norway/Stabekk Videregaaende Skole) and he scored to put the Miners in the lead before Drury tied the game with less than 10 minutes to go.

Jorgensen became the first Miner to score twice in a game since Shane Cairns (North Olmstead, OH/North Olmstead) did so against Drury in September of 2019 and the first to earn the conference's weekly award on the offensive side since Felipe Andrade was named late in the 2017 season.

Missouri S&T will host Missouri-St. Louis Friday at Allgood-Bailey Stadium in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
