ROLLA, Mo. – After battling to a scoreless tie over the first 45 minutes of action Friday evening, Lewis scored twice in the second half and took a 2-0 win over Missouri S&T's women's soccer team in Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
The first half was a tightly-contested match as each team had only three shots apiece. However, with the wind at their backs in the second half, the Flyers' first shot of the half in the 48
th minute found the net as Alex Dennis got a shot by S&T goalkeeper
Viktoria Johnson (Granite City, IL/Granite City).
Lewis (9-5-1, 7-3-1 GLVC) added to its lead in the 71
st minute on a goal by Cameron Sengstock.
The Flyers outshot S&T (2-8-4, 2-7-2 GLVC) by a 14-9 margin and had eight shots on net to the Miners' four. Johnson finished with six saves for S&T, who was led by shots by
Paige VanDaele (Cottleville, MO/Francis Howell Central) with three.
Missouri S&T will wrap up its season Sunday when it hosts Indianapolis on Senior Day at noon at the S&T Soccer Field.
