ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's women's soccer team closed the 2022 season Sunday afternoon on a high note, getting a second half goal from senior
Paige Jackson (St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word Academy) to knock off Indianapolis 1-0 at the S&T Soccer Field.
Jackson scored the lone goal of the contest in the 65
th minute of play – on one of only two shots the Miners had in the game – when she got a ball off a misplay on a goal kick, made a move to get free from a defender and hit a shot over the head of UIndy goalkeeper Makenna Nickens that caromed off the crossbar but into the net.
The Miners (3-8-4, 3-7-2 GLVC) held off the Greyhounds (5-6-5, 4-4-4 GLVC) from that point, although UIndy had opportunities in the final 10 minutes with one shot going off the goalpost, another that was saved off the end line by a Miner defender with under two minutes remaining and goalkeeper
Viktoria Johnson (Granite City, IL/Granite City) making two of her six saves in the contest.
Johnson, one of a group of 11 seniors honored prior to Sunday's game, finished with a combined shutout with
Anastasia Barcom (St. Louis, MO/Rosati-Kain) as Johnson was taken late in the contest along the other seniors.
UIndy had a 14-2 advantage in shots in the contest, which marked the first win for the Miners over the Greyhounds since S&T posted a 3-2 overitme win on Sept. 11, 2016.
