Miners Head West for Lone Game this Week Against Fourth-Ranked Drury

1/27/2022 11:30:00 AM

ROLLA, Mo. – Looking to rebound after a tough setback Monday, the Missouri S&T women's basketball team will look to take advantage of a light week on the schedule as they will head to the O'Reilly Family Events Center in Springfield for the second game of the season against #4 Drury.

The Miners (7-10, 4-7) have gone 3-3 in their last six games have shot better than 40% from the floor in five of those six games and have shot better then 48% in three of their last four games. Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) ranks eighth in the GLVC in scoring this season with 14.6 PPG and leads the conference from the free throw line, shooting .870 for the season. Despite being held to single digit scoring for just the fourth time this season Monday, Rodriguez is coming off a week where she averaged 20.3 PPG, including a season-high 28 in just 22 minutes against Rockhurst. Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) isn't far behind, averaging 12.3 PPG and pulling down just shy of six rebounds per game while going .561 from the field. Kristen Keys (St. Louis, MO/Westminster Christian Academy) now leads the team in assists with 38 while shooting .429 from the floor herself. Marta Durk's (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) 29 steals lead the team and rank sixth in the GLVC, while freshman Katelynne Roberts (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) is now up to 28 blocks on the season, a mark which still leads the league. She is joined in the top three in that category by Kerr, who has 17 blocked shots in 12 games this season.

The Panthers (19-2, 9-1) dropped to fourth in the latest WBCA Division II Coaches Poll after seeing their 14-game wining streak snapped in a one-point loss to Truman State by a score of 67-66 on January 17. DU responded to that loss with a 26-point win over SBU Saturday by a score of 82-56. DU is led in the scoring column by All-American Paige Robinson at 22.4 PPG, but have been without her services for the month of January as GLVC play has resumed. As a result, Alana Findley (15.1 PPG) and Kaylee DaMitz (13.9 PPG) have had to take on more of a role as have the rest of the Panthers, who are still outscoring opponents by nearly 20 points per game for the season. Findley also leads the team in shooting, rebounding and blocks, shooting .518 from the floor and pulling down 8.3 boards per night and tallying 16 rejections in 21 games, while DaMitz's 57 assists and 46 steals lead the team.

Earlier this season, S&T hosted DU in the conference opener for both teams back on November 29, a game in which the Panthers won 90-74. Rodriguez led S&T with 20 points in that game and was joined by Jada Lindesmith (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lutheran) with 11 points.
