ROLLA, Mo. – The Great Lakes Valley Conference had 190 of its teams that have receive the Team Academic awards for the recently completed 2020-21 school year on Monday and the list includes 10 squads from Missouri S&T.
S&T was one of 13 full-time GLVC institutions to have at least 10 teams that finished the academic year with a grade point average of 3.30 or better. The Miners' list was led for the fourth consecutive year by the women's golf program with a 3.69 grade point average as it was one of 14 squads in that sport to be honored by the GLVC.
This year's list includes six of Missouri S&T's women's sports and four men's programs. Besides the golf team, the other women's programs to make the list were the track & field, cross country, soccer, softball and volleyball squads. All 15 softball and volleyball teams across the GLVC were honored on this year's team.
The four men's teams to land the award were the golf, baseball, swimming and soccer squads.
The S&T volleyball and women's cross country teams have earned the team academic award in all 12 seasons it has been presented, while the men's soccer program has earned the honor in each of the last six years and the women's soccer and softball teams have earned the award in five consecutive years.
This is the third straight year in which Missouri S&T has had at least 10 of its teams earn the Team Academic Award. A total of 11 Miner programs earned the award in each of the two previous seasons.
A total of 128 women's teams and 62 men's programs made up the 190 teams to earn the team academic honor. Maryville University led the GLVC with 17 sports to earn the team award.
