3/9/2021 11:02:00 AM

ROLLA, MO- The women's soccer team tallied their first win of the season this past weekend when they took the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist down with a 2-0 final.

Paige Jackson (St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word Academy) got things rolling for the Miners in the first half of the match when Melanie Kulig (Belleville, Ill./Belleville Township) flipped a ball in the box to an open Paige Jackson (St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word Academy) in the 24' of play to give S&T the 1-0 lead. Kaitlyn Schwandtner (Tebbetts, Mo./Jefferson City) got the go-ahead goal in the 73' of play off a loose ball about 20 yards out from the goal and sent it straight past the Bearcats goalkeeper and put S&T up 2-0. That lead would be enough to hold through the remaining 17 minutes of play and give the Miners their first win of the season.

Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South) got her first start of the season collecting three saves in the process and getting her seventh shutout of her S&T career.

Missouri S&T (1-2-1, 1-2-1 GLVC) will host the Panthers of Drury University this week in their lone game of the week this Friday night.

Drury (2-1-0, 2-1-0 GLVC) is coming off a dominating 5-0 win over Southwest Baptist this past Friday. Chloe Cash and Christine Harpe led the way for the Panthers with two goals each in the match while Keeley Combs picked up her first goal of the season off an assist from Elsa Gonzalez in the 52' of play.

In goal for Drury, Sarah Franks and Kelsy Klingensmith have split time each recording two saves through their first three games.

Last season when the Miners and Panthers met, Drury used an early 2-0 lead to hold S&T at bay.

Julia Crets (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) would try to get the Miners offense started in the second half, recording her first goal of the season in the 79' of play, but that would be the last shot the Miners got off in the game and they suffered the 2-1 loss.
