TALEHQUAH, OKLA.- After facing a tough Rogers State team, the Miners headed out to Northeastern State to take on the River Hawks. While S&T did all they could, they suffered the 5-0 and 8-2 losses.
The Miners defense held steady through the first four innings of play to start game one, giving up just one run in the bottom of the 2
nd off a bases loaded walk. But two runs in both the bottom of the 5
th and 6
th innings from Northeastern State would further extend the Miners deficit and lead to the eventual 5-0 loss.
S&T got good look in the top of the 5
th inning when
Shannon Flowers (Katy, Texas/Katy) doubled down the left field line to start the inning. After
Baylee Jobson (Marceline, Mo./Marceline RV) came in to pinch run,
Rachel Smith (Monroe City, Mo./Monroe City R-1) would put down a sac bunt and move Jobson over to third base. But, NSU's pitching and defense held steady, leaving Jobson stranded.
Charlye Rowland (Pearcy, Ark./Lake Hamilton) got the start for the Miners today going 4.0 innings with four strikeouts and holding the River Hawks to just two hits.
Kate Baxter (New Bloomfield, MO/New Bloomfield) finished off the remaining 2.0 innings of work while recording one strikeout.
S&T got their runs of the day in the top of the third of game two when
Keely Morgan (Laguna Hills, CA/Laguna Hills) came to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a ball into the outfield, and advance to second on the throw, that allowed
Elizabeth Viox (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) and
Maddy Passolano (Mokena, Ill./Lockport Township) to score to tie the game at 2-2.
NSU's offense would score eight runs through the first five innings of play to take an 8-2 lead, and eventual win.
The Miners got another chance to score in the top of the 6
th inning when
Chloe Saltijeral (/North Aurora, Ill.) doubled to center field. She would advance to third after
Marcy McCalla (Staunton, IL/Staunton) singled to right field but would be stranded there.
Kate Baxter (New Bloomfield, MO/New Bloomfield) got the start for game two going 3.1 innings with two strikeouts wile
Charlye Rowland (Pearcy, Ark./Lake Hamilton) finished off the remaining 2.2 innings of work.
