BOLIVAR, MO- The Miners bounced back after getting swept by the Hawks of Rockhurst last night with a series split of Southwest Baptist with a 7-0 win in game one and a 9-1 loss in game two.
Maddy Passolano (Mokena, Ill./Lockport Township) kicked things off in game one with a solo shot over the left-center field to give the Miners the 1-0 lead in the top of the 1
st inning.
Keeley Morgan added in two more runs for S&T in the top of the 4
th when she singled up the middle and brought
Chloe Saltijeral (/North Aurora, Ill.) and
Taylor Caton (Ballwin, Mo/Parkway West) around the bases to extend their lead out to 3-0.
Holli Finnell (Nolensville, TN/Nolensville) pushed the Miners lead out more in the top of the 5
th when she tripled to left field and sent Passolano and
Kate Baxter (New Bloomfield, MO/New Bloomfield) around the bases to make it a 5-0 game.
Passolano and
Elizabeth Viox (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) would score in the top of the 7
th inning to further extend the Miners lead.
After Finnell hit a sacrifice fly to center field,
Maddy Passolano (Mokena, Ill./Lockport Township) was able tag up from third and score for the third time in the game. Viox would be S&T's final run of the game when she scored on a wild pitch to give the Miners the 7-0 win.
Byrn Wooldridge (2-2) got the start for game one pitching a complete 7.0 innings with just two hits allowed and four strikeouts recorded.
It was a much different story in game two of the series; after Southwest Baptist opened up the game with five combined runs in the 1
st and 2
nd innings, S&T picked up their only run of the game in the bottom of the 3
rd inning when
Maddy Passolano (Mokena, Ill./Lockport Township) sent a ball down the left field line and brought
Hannah Antzoulatos (Planfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) around to cut the Miners deficit to 5-1.
SBU would add four more runs in the bottom half of the 3
rd inning to extend their lead out to eight. S&T would not be able to connect for another run in the 4
th or 5
th innings and would suffer the 9-1 loss.
