Miners Double Digit Comeback Spoiled by Late Greyhound Run

ROLLA, MO- Finishing out their home schedule for the 2020-21 season, the Miners welcomed the Greyhounds of Indianapolis to Gibson Arena. While the Miners were able to make a late comeback against UIndy, late free-throws from the Greyhounds would force S&T to take the 79-72 loss.

The Miners and Greyhounds would trade baskets to open the game, looking at a 9-9 game after Kristin Keys picked up a steal and fast break lay-up with 5:01 left on the clock. Neither team was able to break away from the other and UIndy took a 20-17 lead after Mya Scheidt grabbed an offensive rebound and laid in a bucket.

S&T's offense went cold to open the second quarter, facing a 10-2 run for Indianapolis and get down 30-19.

Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) and Jada Lindesmith (St. Peters, MO/Lutheran) shot the Miners back into the game; Rodriguez drove the lane and laid in a bucket with 5:38 remaining in the half. The very next possession, Kristen Keys (St. Louis, MO/Westminster Christian Academy) found Jada Lindesmith (St. Peters, MO/Lutheran) open in the far corner for a three-pointer and cut the Miners deficit to six. Rodriguez added in another three-pointer for S&T to get within three of the Greyhounds.

Despite the Miner's mini comeback, UIndy would close the half on a 7-2 run to push their lead back out to 40-31.

The Greyhounds offense exploded in the third quarter getting up by as much as 17 after a short jump shot from Lauren With. Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) would add in another three-pointer before the end of the quarter and take the 59-45 UIndy advantage into the final 10 minutes of play.

After being down by as much as 16 in the fourth quarter, the Miners made an amazing comeback. In less than two minutes, S&T got a combined 12 points from Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy), Jada Lindesmith (St. Peters, MO/Lutheran), Kristen Keys (St. Louis, MO/Westminster Christian Academy), and Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) to get within six of UIndy.

After the Greyhounds Marissa Knobloch drained a three-pointer, the Miners went on a 10-1 run to make it a 69-69 game with 2:15 remaining in the game.

But, the Miners outstanding comeback was soon erased as the Greyhounds outscore S&T 10-2 in the final two minutes of the game to take the 79-72 win.

Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) led the Miners with 26 points on 9-14 shooting while also pulling 10 rebounds. Laura Rodriguez (Gran Canaria, Spain/Baloncesto Torrelodones) added in 14 points while Marta Durk (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) chipped in 13 points.

As a team, Missouri S&T (3-16, 3-16 GLVC) finished the game shooting just over 43% from the field and going 6-13 from long range.
