ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's basketball team will close out its home schedule Saturday when the Miners play host to Indianapolis in a 3 p.m. contest at Gibson Arena.
The Miners, whose scheduled game with Southern Indiana on Thursday was postponed – the game has not been rescheduled at this time – will bring a record of 4-13 into Saturday's contest against the 7-10 Greyhounds, who will also have Thursday off due to a postponement of their game at Drury.
S&T dropped its only game last week, falling 77-68 at McKendree despite getting 26 points from its leading scorer on the season,
Julien Smith (Fort Worth, TX/Northwest). With that performance, Smith has increased his scoring average to 18.5 points per game which now ranks in a tie for fourth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and his team-high 47 three-point baskets are the fourth-most in the conference.
The Miners have three additional players that are scoring in double figures in
Mitch Fairless (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne) at 11.9 points per game,
Kevin Legardy (Las Vegas, NV/Canyon Springs) at 10.9 per contest and
Kaden Froebe (Lincoln, IL/Lincoln) at an even 10 per game. Froebe also leads the Miners in rebounding with 6.1 per game, in assists with 61 and steals with 45, a total that leads all of NCAA Division II. In addition, Froebe is shooting a team-best 45.2 percent from three-point range.
Mahamadou Kaba-Camera (Conakry, Guinea/Balboa City (San Diego, CA)) is one of the top shot blockers in Division II with his 24 rejections on the year; he currently ranks in a tie for eighth in the nation in blocked shots and is also shooting 54 percent from the floor.
ABOUT INDIANAPOLIS: The Greyhounds, whose scheduled game at Drury on Thursday was postponed, have rebounded from a slow start to bring a record of 7-10 into play this week. UIndy -- who was set to be the top seed in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional last March -- lost seven straight games of the year, but won seven of its next nine before falling 88-80 at home Saturday to Southwest Baptist.
Dee Montgomery leads a group of four double figures scorers for the Greyhounds with an average of 14.6 points per game and has connected 46 times from three-point range, while Cory Miller, Jr., is scoring 13.2 points a game and leads the team with 53 assists.
UIndy is also getting 12.4 points per contest from Jesse Bingham and 11.6 a game from Kendrick Tchoua; they are also the top two rebounders for the Greyhounds with Tchoua leading the way with 6.8 per game. Tchoua is also shooting 63.6 percent from the field which ranks second in the GLVC.
