Women’s Soccer Looks to Secure Postseason Berth in Final Weekend of Regular Season

ROLLA, Mo. – Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, the Missouri S&T women's soccer team will look secure their spot in the 2021 GLVC Women's Soccer Championships starting November 7. The Miners (6-5-3, 5-4-3) currently sit seventh in the standings with 18 points while UMSL holds the eighth and final tournament spot with 17 points.
 
Currently on the outside looking in are Illinois Springfield in ninth with 16, Quincy in 10th with 15 points and Rockhurst in 11th with 14 points. A Miner win this weekend will all but guarantee a spot in the postseason for the first time since 2014, when S&T played for a conference title. The Tritons are at home this weekend against Southern Indiana and McKendree and the Prairie Stars head down to Springfield to play Drury after Friday's stop in Rolla. Quincy is on the road against Drury and Southwest Baptist while Rockhurst plays host to William Jewell and Truman State.
 
S&T is led on offense by Sydney Gratz (Geneva, IL/Geneva), who is tops on the club with six goals and four assists. Freshmen Lily Chung (Cottleville, MO/Francis Howell Central) and Paige VanDaele (Cottleville, MO/Francis Howell Central) have three goals each while Melanie Kulig (Belleville, IL/Belleville West) and Danielle Hopkins (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley) have two goals each. Four other Miners, Lauren Bulcroft (Claremore, OK/Verdigris), Ally Hasken (Freeport, IL/Freeport), Paige Jackson (St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word Academy) and Damita Mendoza (San Antonio, TX/Smithson Valley), have one goal to their credit this season. Beth Roberts (Lake St. Louis, MO/Liberty) trails only Gratz in assists with three to her name this season while five others have assisted on goals this season.
 
Kristin Steins (Ballwin, MO/Parkway South) posted her seventh shutout of the season Friday against UIndy and has made 59 saves against 167 shots faced this season to post a 1.01 GAA in 1159:30 in goal. Viktoria Johnson (Granite City, IL/Granite City) saw action late Sunday against USI and has seven saves against 18 shots to post a 1.07 GAA.
 
Illinois Springfield (7-5-2, 5-5-1) split a pair of matches at home last weekend, knocking off SBU 2-1 before falling 1-0 to Rockhurst. Sierra Cenek is the leading scorer for UIS with seven goals on the year and is one of four Prairie Stars with multiple goals this season. She is joined by Allison Hackett and Madison Grandys with three each and Ally Lassetter with two. Four other players have found the net for UIS this season.
 
Lauren Griffin leads the team with four assists as one of five players with multiple assists. Hackett, Lassetter, Abby Dellamorte and Claire Sever all have two assists each while four other Prairie Stars have assists this season.
 
Allison Mirimanian has been the sole netminder this season, registering 65 saves against 146 shots faced and posting a 1.10 GAA and has two shutouts to her name in 1310:23 of playing time.
 
Lewis (9-3-2, 7-3-2) is currently fifth in the standings and is riding a four-match winning streak coming into the weekend. The Flyers shutout Drury 1-0 Friday and defeated SBU 4-2 on Sunday after sweeping their previous road trip with 2-0 and 5-2 wins over Rockhurst and William Jewell.
 
Cali Havelka-Vanderplow leads Lewis with five goals and seven assists while Faith Lewis is second on the club with four goals. Five other Flyers have multiple goals to their credit this season as eight different players have scored this season for Lewis. Melisa Hadzic and Miranda Nirchi have three assists and two goals each while Elisa Aguilar has two assists and two goals of her own. Four other Flyers have tallied assists on goals this season.
 
Lucy Clark has been the primary keeper for Lewis this season, starting all 13 games in which she has player and made 45 saves against 133 shots to post a 0.74 GAA in 1213:21 in the net and has seven shutouts on the season.

Sunday's match against Lewis will be Senior Day for the Miners, as they will recognize the seniors on this year's team in a pregame ceremony on the field.
 
Last spring, the Miners picked up a 1-0 win on the road over UIS and fell 2-0 to Lewis in Romeoville.
