1/14/2021 9:46:00 PM

Box Score KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Facing the top-ranked shooting team in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Thursday night, Missouri S&T's men's basketball team was unable to slow down Truman State as the 12th-ranked Bulldogs handed the Miners a 93-56 defeat in Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Pershing Arena.

The Bulldogs (9-1) shot 64.3 percent from the field and made 12-of-23 (52.2 percent) from three-point range as they ran out to a 23-point lead by halftime and sent the Miners (2-9) to their fourth straight loss.

After a bit of a slow start by both sides, the Bulldogs scored the first eight points of the contest before the Miners got their first points at the 16:09 mark on a lay-up by Mitch Fairless (St. Charles, MO/Duchesne).  Truman then extended that lead to 13 before S&T made an 8-0 run – including three-point baskets by Julien Smith (Fort Worth, TX/Northwest) and Kevin Legardy (Las Vegas, NV/Canyon Springs) – to get to within five with 12:24 to play in the half.

However, the Bulldogs responded with a 9-0 run of their own after Legardy's trey to go up by 14 and kept the lead in double figures for the balance of the opening half, taking a 23-point lead of 44-21 to the locker room as they shot 58.6 percent from the floor in the half to S&T's 31 percent.

Missouri S&T had the lead down to 20 following another three-pointer by Legardy four minutes into the second half, but another quick 7-0 burst by Truman pushed the lead out again and the Bulldogs were able to cruise to the win as they made 19 of their 27 second half shots (70.4 percent) from the field.

Smith led three Miners in double figures with 14 points, while Mahamadou Kaba-Camera (Conakry, Guinea/Balboa City (San Diego, CA)) posted a career-high 13 points and Legardy finished with 12.  The Bulldogs had six players in double figures, paced by 14 points apiece from Masen Miller and Hunter Strait.

The Miners return home to host William Jewell on Saturday in a 6 p.m. contest at Gibson Arena.
