Miners Split Day Two of Dome Invitational

ROSEMONT, ILL- The Miner softball team continues their successful streak today in their second day of the Midwest Dome Invitational. S&T was able to take the 6-4 win over Hillsdale before falling to Wayne State 6-0.

MISSOURI S&T: 6, HILLSDALE: 4
The Chargers got out to the early lead in this one; after Kasidy Carson struck out swinging in the top of the 2nd inning, Elaine Townley and Reagan Gensiejewski went for the double steal from 1st and 3rd base and gave Hillsdale the 1-0 lead.

S&T got their run back in the bottom of the 4th when Rachel Smith (Monroe City, Mo./Monroe City R-1) singled down the left field line and brought Ashley Davis (Erie, IL/Erie) across home plate.

HC would take back their lead in the top of the 5th inning with consecutive hits from Sarah Wojcik and Renee Bielawa and a sac-fly from Madison Stoner. Hillsdale's explosive offense would push their lead out to 4-1.

Once again, the Miners would tie the game; in the bottom half of the 5th inning, Olivia Young (Millstadt, IL/Belleville Township) cleared the bases with a single into left field that turned into extra bases thanks to a fielding error by the Chargers left-fielder. Marcy McCalla (Staunton, IL/Staunton) and Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley) would both score on the play and cut S&T's deficit to 4-3.

The very next batter, Ashley Davis (Erie, IL/Erie), would bring Young home after another Charger error allowed both players to reach safely and tie the game again.

Marcy McCalla (Staunton, IL/Staunton) would get the game winning RBI on a ground-rule double to left-center field that brought Hannah Antzoulatos (Planfield, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) and Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley) home. The 6-4 win marked the third straight win for the Miners and moved them to 3-3 for the season.

Six different Miner players picked up hits with Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley) (3), Olivia Young (Millstadt, IL/Belleville Township) (2), and Ashley Davis (Erie, IL/Erie) (2) picking up multiple hits.

Olivia Walter (Catawissa, MO/Cor Jesu Academy) (2-2) picked up the start and the win today going 6.0 innings with four strikeouts and no walks.

WAYNE STATE: 6, MISSOURI S&T: 0
It was a different story for the Miners in their second game of the day, falling 6-0 to the Warriors.

Bryanna Kressler and Amy Claydon got the ball rolling for WSU in the top of the 1st inning with two-run RBI homeruns to left and right field, respectively. The 4-0 lead would put the Miners in the hole early.

S&T would get runners in scoring position in both the 2nd and 3rd innings, but were unable to get past Wayne State's defense.

WSU would take advantage of the Miners offensive struggles and add runs in the top of the 5th and 6th innings to extend their lead out to 6-0.

The Miners would get two more runners in scoring position in the bottom of the 6th inning when Olivia Young (Millstadt, IL/Belleville Township) doubled down the right field line to move Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley) over to third base. S&T's offense continued to struggle as they were unable to connect for a run.

Wayne State's 6-0 lead would be enough for the Warriors to hold on and hand the Miners their first loss in the Dome Invitational.

Three Miner players combined for their four hits with Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley) recording two of them.

Kate Baxter (New Bloomfield, MO/New Bloomfield) (1-2) got the start in S&T's second game pitching the full 7.0 innings while recording three strikeouts.
