Softball Falls to Wisconsin-Parkside

ROSEMONT, ILL.- The Miners concluded play in the Midwest Dome Invitational today, taking on the Rangers of Wisconsin-Parkside. While S&T held the lead for most of the game, the offense of Parkside came alive in the 7th inning to hand the Miners the 4-3 loss.

It all started in the bottom of the 1st inning when Ashley Davis (Erie, IL/Erie) doubled into right-center field that brought Marcy McCalla (Staunton, IL/Staunton) across home plate to five the Miners the early 1-0 lead.

Rachel Smith (Monroe City, Mo./Monroe City R-1) gave S&T another run in the 3rd inning; with the bases loaded, Smith singled to deep second base that brought McCalla home for the second time. It would be McCalla in the bottom half of the 4th that extended the Miners lead out to 3-0 when she grounded out to shortstop and brought Emily Davison home.

S&T would hold their 3-0 lead heading into the 7th inning before the Rangers threatened the Miners win.

Adrien Hall brought in two runs off her single to center field to cut Parkside's deficit to 3-2. Megan Aliverti would give the Rangers their first lead of the game when she singled down the right field line and brought in Hall and Cassie Walek. The 4-3 lead forced the Miners to bat in the bottom half of the inning to attempt a comeback.

The Miners would come up just short in the 7th inning; while McCalla reached base for the 3rd time today, S&T was unable to regain their lead and fell to the Rangers 4-3.

Seven different S&T players picked up hits today with Ashley Davis (Erie, IL/Erie) leading the way with two.

Olivia Walter (Catawissa, MO/Cor Jesu Academy) (2-3) went 3.2 innings today recording three strikeouts and allowing just two hits. Charlye Rowland (Pearcy, Ark./Lake Hamilton) pitched the remaining 3.2 innings.
