ROSEMONT, ILL.- The Miners concluded play in the Midwest Dome Invitational today, taking on the Rangers of Wisconsin-Parkside. While S&T held the lead for most of the game, the offense of Parkside came alive in the 7
th inning to hand the Miners the 4-3 loss.
It all started in the bottom of the 1
st inning when
Ashley Davis (Erie, IL/Erie) doubled into right-center field that brought
Marcy McCalla (Staunton, IL/Staunton) across home plate to five the Miners the early 1-0 lead.
Rachel Smith (Monroe City, Mo./Monroe City R-1) gave S&T another run in the 3
rd inning; with the bases loaded, Smith singled to deep second base that brought McCalla home for the second time. It would be McCalla in the bottom half of the 4
th that extended the Miners lead out to 3-0 when she grounded out to shortstop and brought Emily Davison home.
S&T would hold their 3-0 lead heading into the 7
th inning before the Rangers threatened the Miners win.
Adrien Hall brought in two runs off her single to center field to cut Parkside's deficit to 3-2. Megan Aliverti would give the Rangers their first lead of the game when she singled down the right field line and brought in Hall and Cassie Walek. The 4-3 lead forced the Miners to bat in the bottom half of the inning to attempt a comeback.
The Miners would come up just short in the 7
th inning; while McCalla reached base for the 3rd time today, S&T was unable to regain their lead and fell to the Rangers 4-3.
Seven different S&T players picked up hits today with
Ashley Davis (Erie, IL/Erie) leading the way with two.
Olivia Walter (Catawissa, MO/Cor Jesu Academy) (2-3) went 3.2 innings today recording three strikeouts and allowing just two hits.
Charlye Rowland (Pearcy, Ark./Lake Hamilton) pitched the remaining 3.2 innings.
