Late Push from Hawks Downs Miners

ROLLA, MO- It went down to the final seconds of the game to decide a winner between the Miners and the Hawks, but back-to-back three-pointers from Rockhurst's Daly Sullivan would give the Hawks push they needed to take the 62-59 win.

Rockhurst jumped out with a 6-0 lead before the Miners put points on the board; Kristen Keys (St. Louis, MO/Westminster Christian Academy) would have the Miners first seven points of the game for S&T after draining a three-pointer from the corner to make it a 9-7 game. Freshman Jada Lindesmith (St. Peters, MO/Lutheran) would follow suit on the next possession with a three from the same corner to give the Miners their first lead of the day at 10-9.

S&T would extend their lead to as much as seven after lay-ups from Eryn Puett (Columbia, MO/Rock Bridge), Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy), and Kristin Steins (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway South) to take an 18-11 lead going into the second quarter.

The Hawks tried their best to dig out of the hole in the second part of the half; Monika Faerber, who scored eight of her game-high 22 points in the second quarter, sank consecutive lay-ups to open play to put Rockhurst down just three.

The Miners got their saving grace in Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy), scoring six of her team-best 16 points in the quarter to keep the lead for S&T. Despite being outscored by the Hawks in the quarter, the Miners would take the 33-28 lead into halftime.

S&T's offense went cold in the third quarter, being held to just eight points in the 10 minute span.

Rockhurst took full advantage of this, getting their lead back with 31 seconds left in the quarter when Monika Faerber got a steal and fast break lay-up to make it a 42-41 game.

The Miners did everything they could in the final stanza of the game, even getting the lead back after an offensive rebound and put-back from Keys with 2:57 remaining in the game. Daly Sullivan would be the thorn in the Miners side, scoring six points in the final three minutes to give the Hawks the 62-59 win.

Alex Kerr (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) picked up her second double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Kristen Keys (St. Louis, MO/Westminster Christian Academy) chipped in 14 points.

As a team, Missouri S&T (0-3, 0-3 GLVC) shot just over 46% from the field.
