INDIANAPOLIS, IND.- The Miners faced a tough challenge today, facing off against the Greyhounds of Indianapolis. While S&T did everything they could to hold on, the offense of UIndy was too much for the Miners as the match's end came to a 3-0 (20-25, 20-25, 16-25) final.
It was back and forth scoring in the first set, neither team gaining more than a four point lead.
UIndy would pull away from the Miners on a five-point run late in the set that saw three S&T errors to get a 21-16 lead. The Miners would fight their way back to a 23-20 score. But, another Miner error along with a kill from the Greyhounds Elizabeth Eads would give Indianapolis the 25-20 win and put the Miners down 1-0 in the match.
It was much the same in the second set; both teams unable to completely pull away from the other.
With the score tied at 20-20, the Greyhounds would end set two with a 5-0 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match and force the Miners to answer in set three.
S&T struggled to hold Indianapolis' hitters, but it would not be enough.
Down 19-16 in the set, UIndy rallied with six kills to end the match.
Kiernan O'Boyle (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy) led the way, offensively, for the Miners with 15 kills and three blocks while
Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) recorded 11 kills. Corinne Stucle led the way in the match with 19 digs while
Sarah McGinnis (Middleton, Wis./Edgewood) dished out 26 assists.
The Miners (11-3; 1-1 GLVC) will be back in Gibson Arena next weekend when they host Illinois Springfield and Lewis on Friday night and Saturday afternoon, respectively.
