ROLLA, MO- The women's soccer team will continue GLVC play this weekend as they open their home schedule on Friday night against newly added member, Southwest Baptist, and finish the weekend on the road at Drury on Sunday afternoon.
The Miners currently on a two-game losing streak after the offense of Maryville University was able to get past S&T's defense for a 2-0 shutout on Sunday.
Despite the loss, Missouri S&T had many opportunities in the match; in the first half,
Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page),
Paige Jackson (St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word Academy), and
Clara Scotte (Lerberget, Sweden/Höganäs Kullagymnasiet) all fired shots at the Saints' goalie, Alison Riddle, within a 90 second span.
Jess Haller (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) had a chance in the second half of the match, but was saved.
About Southwest Baptist:
All-time, the Miners are 10-8-2 against the Bearcats with the last match ending in a 0-0 draw back in 2011.
SBU has won two of their last three matches for the season, most recently, defeating GLVC rival, Drury University 2-1.
The Bearcats struck first in the match with a goal from Raegan Edwards less than nine minutes into the first half. Drury answered half-way through the opening 45 minutes to tie the match.
It wouldn't be until the 95' when Samantha Boese netted the golden goal to give SBU the 2-1 victory.
This is the first season for the Bearcats in the GLVC after spending the last three decades in the MIAA.
About Drury:
The Miners have faced trouble against the Panthers in the past, going 4-11-5 against them. Last season when the teams met, S&T came out victorious when
Morgan Sikora (Highland, Ill./Highland) scored the game-winning goal in the 84' from about 8 yards out. The Miners offense dominated Drury's defense firing off 10 shots in the match.
Drury has yet to mark a game in the win column this season; they opened the season with a 2-2 draw against Northwest Missouri State and have dropped their last three matches (most recent being against SBU).
Only two Panther players have recorded goals this season; Kayla Day, who has two of the team's three goals this season, and Chloe Cash.
The Panthers will travel to St. Louis to face-off against the Saints of Maryville University before host the Miners on Sunday afternoon.
