ST. CHARLES, MO- The Miners took a tough blow today as they dropped their doubleheader with Lindenwood University 10-2 and 16-4
GAME ONE: MISSOURI S&T: 2, LINDENWOOD: 10 (5 INNINGS)
S&T hung with the Lions through the first four innings of the game, facing a 4-1 deficit heading into the 5
th inning.
After Austine Pauley hit a solo shot to left-center field to give LU a 1-0 lead, the Miners tied the game up on an RBI single from
Courtney Jackson (Parkville, MO/Park Hill South) in the top of the 3
rd to make it a 1-1 game.
Lindenwood would get a run in the 3
rd, 4
th, and 5
th innings to extend their lead over the Miners before exploding in the 5
th and 6
th innings.
The Miners would tack on one more run in the top of the 6
th inning when
Anna Burke (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) singled down the right field line to being
Olivia Young (Millstadt, IL/Belleville Township) home.
The Lions would add seven runs in the last two innings to secure their 10-2 win.
Kate Baxter (New Bloomfield, MO/New Bloomfield) (1-8) got the start for game one going 5.2 innings with one strikeout and two walks.
GAME TWO: MISSOURI S&T: 4, LINDENWOOD: 16 (5 INNINGS)
Things did not go the Miners way in the second game of the doubleheader; the Lions opened up with an 11-run first inning to take a dominating lead.
S&T would get some runs back in the second and third innings;
Anna Burke (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) kicked things off in the 2
nd for the Miners with a single through the right side that would bring
Hannah Franceschini (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield Central) home.
Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley) would add two more runs with an RBI single up the middle that would send Burke and
Keely Morgan (Laguna Hills, CA/Laguna Hills) across home plate.
After two more runs in the 2
nd, S&T would add one more run in the top of the 3
rd when
Keely Morgan (Laguna Hills, CA/Laguna Hills) grounded out to short and
Jacey Allen (Roanoke, TX/Byron Nelson) scored from third base. Lindenwood would go on to add three more runs before the end of the game to take the 16-4 win.
Olivia Walter (Catawissa, MO/Cor Jesu Academy) (3-8) got the start for game two going 3.0 innings with one walk.
Avery English (Carterville, IL/Carterville) came in for the last inning of work recording one strikeout and allowing three hits.
